Get Your Dream Jeans Body...and Lose 10 Pounds

Wait! That's not all...get your tips on how to get your dream jeans body. With the right kind, your jeans will be doing all the work of slimming you and showing your best features.

Women want to lose pounds instantly and have great-fitting jeans. From strategically placed pockets to hidden panels, designers have made it easier to find your perfect pair of jeans while giving you a slimming effect.

Tummy Control

For tummy control, and who doesn't want a slimmer middle, get jeans with panels that are discreetly sewn inside the jeans. Macy's and other major department stores now carry tummy tuck jeans. Celebrities love tummy tuck jeans and you can find out more about where they are sold at tummytuckjeans.com. The company guarantees you will look a size smaller. Lee jeans are also known for their stomach smoothing fit. For a sleek appearance and no lumps caused by bulky jeans, look for jeans with pockets sewn into the fly. And, be careful with a slightly elongated rise which can cause tummy spillover.

Trim Your Thighs

To trim your thighs look for a bootcut or straight leg style. This creates a long, lean line as does wearing a dark wash with no faded areas. To keep your dark jeans from fading all you do is add a couple of teaspoons of white vinegar in the rinse cycle. Wear stretchy, dark denims over your thighs to look sleek with a slimming effect, but make sure you have enough room around your thighs and knees. Stay away from clinging fabric because it can make legs look bigger. Riders by Lee jeans are only about $20 and give a leg slimming effect.

Flatter Your Hourglass Figure

Nothing is more upsetting than not being able to accentuate your waist when wearing trendy jeans. You can try jeans with a bit of elastic at the waist...not the type that are obviously elastic. Mavi.com carries some styles like this. You can also opt for a contoured waistband that is cut higher in the back with a slightly scooped front. Adorn your jeans with rhinestones for a modern look.

Good Looking Derriere

For a better view, the trick is in the pockets. Wear jeans with curvy pockets for a beautiful shape in the back. For greater fullness, wear flap style pockets. To draw the eyes up, wear jeans with fading at the back of the legs. Another trick for lifting your backside is wearing a belt that covers part of it to make it look shapelier. Try different sizes with different jeans and you will see which ones look better on you. Serpentine stitching also creates an uplifting effect.

When buying jeans, take your time. Most women try at least 10 jeans before finding the right fit. To build your jeans wardrobe, choose a darker jean for a dressy look and a lighter shade for casual days. It also helps to bring along the pair of shoes you plan to wear the jeans with so you can try them on and make sure the length is perfect.

You're ready to show off your dream jeans body!

Super low rise jeans will surely sit on your hip area so it wont dig in as you sit down with it. Low cut jeans look great when paired with clothes that compliment them. Yes, it's true that hipster jeans are comfortable to wear but it's also a fact that they introduce figure flaws. For those who were dying to wear low rise jeans but do not have the perfect body figure for it, there are many tips and strategies to counter the disadvantages of this style of jeans. You can savor the delight of wearing super low jeans by keeping in mind these awesome fashion tips that will emphasize your figure's strengths and at the same time hide your unpleasant parts.

Low rise jeans that won't pressure your belly

Of course, everybody's problem with jeans is the sudden expansion of their stomachs every time they are done eating so it would be better to pick the perfect low cut jeans for you. Choose hipster jeans that won't pressure your tummy after you've eaten. Make sure that you can still move comfortably with your jeans after you've filled up your stomach. Always remind yourself not to overeat so you can still wear your jeans comfortably. You don't want to buy a new pair of low rise jeans if you gain a lot of weight, do you?

Hide the flabby abdomen

Super low rise jeans expose the abdomen part of the body so most people who wear it have sexy bellies. Since hipster jeans were designed that way, many women who were not gifted with slim and flat bellies do not prefer it. If you do not have a sexy belly don't lose hope, you can hide those unpleasant flab by pairing your low rise jeans with thick belts. Thick belts do not only hide your jungle bellies but it also adds a rock star or vogue flavor to your fashion. Who said that low rise were only for slim girls?

Tattoos

Not everyone favors the art of tattoos because of its dirty and nasty reputation but sometimes it looks hot when fused with the right fashion. Since hipster jeans exhibits the navel as well as the lower back, girls having a tattoo just below their navel gives them a sexy appeal while other girls prefer to be tattooed on their lower backs. You can also try out henna tattoos if you do not want to permanently paint your body. It gives the same impression like real tattoos, only it wears off after a few weeks. This fashion trend came from rock stars and we can not say it does not look great on them.

Navel piercing

Navel piercing is not an unusual thing with girls. When wearing super low cut jeans, you can emphasize your sexy belly more by adding a little jewelry piece on it. Before you step in to navel piercing, make sure that the shop where you are having it pierced has a good reputation and keeps their tools sterile, you don't want to infect any part of your body, right? Celebrities also sport this fashion trend and it gives that sexy look and appeal to girls especially when they are wearing low rise jeans. Girls really look hot and sexy with those pierced navels along with low rise jeans so boys can't take of their eyes over them.

Thongs, thongs, thongs

To make boys focus more on your sexy back and drool over you, why not pair your super low rise jeans with a thong? Thongs are small and easily worn so it's almost a perfect compliment for your low rise jeans. Thongs also introduce a comfortable feeling with low rise jeans. Normal panties won't actually work with this style of jeans because most of them are designed to be worn high unlike thongs. A thong will definitely create an impact on your fashion statement when paired up with low cut jeans; it's simply seductive and hot. Let the boys turn their heads with the sexiness of your lower back.

You are now equipped with these fashion tips and tricks, don't hesitate to wear those hipster jeans that you've always wanted. Be confident and enjoy the style, sexiness and comfort of super low rise jeans.

Shopping For the Perfect Pair of Jeans

For most of us women, one of the most daunting and frustrating piece of clothing to shop for is jeans. As women come in different shapes and sizes, it can be hard to find the perfect fit. But when you do find that pair of jeans that make you look and feel great, then you hang on to them for dear life. Ask any woman, and they will have a pair of jeans that they have had forever and would rather bin their boyfriend than their favourite pair of jeans.

If you're lost in a sea of boyfriend, drainpipe and boot cut styles then this short guide will help to unravel the terminology used and what to look for in your perfect pair of jeans. First things first, you should decide on the style or cut of the jeans that you are looking for. And more importantly which style will most flatter your body shape. Yes, skinny jeans are in fashion at the moment and no, not everyone can wear them. There is vast range of styles out there to fit any body shape; you just have to be a bit clued up to what suits you. Do you want your jeans to be tight to the leg or baggy? Do you want straight-leg or boot cut, flare or boyfriend? If these terms sound to you like a different language then this guide is for you.

The boyfriend style of jean is a versatile style that flatters all shapes and sizes. The baggy nature of the cut makes them look like they are 'borrowed' from your man. They are effortlessly comfortable and can be worn with both ballet pumps and heels for an alternative look. Baggies are a great alternative to the popular skinny jeans and are very easy to wear. But if you want to join the skinny jean crew then it is important to choose the best possible fit for you. There is an abundance of variations; therefore it is worth following the number one golden rule when choosing jeans and shop around.

If you are lucky enough to have slim legs, then skinny jeans will flatter and define your shape- but remember that there is no room for hiding any lumps or bumps. If you aren't ready to bare all then maybe a pair of straight leg jeans are for you. They still stay close the leg giving a slim silhouette but they don't taper in at the ankle in the same way that the original style of skinny jeans do. These are more forgiving whilst remaining on-trend. Skinny jeans look great dressed up with skyscraper heels for the evening, ballet pumps or tucked into boots for a casual day look. Boot cut skinny jeans work in the same way as straight leg ones in that they are more flattering than traditional skinny jeans. These jeans flare out at the ankle to balance out your proportions if you are a little hip-heavy.

Wide-legged high-waisted jeans were a big hit last year and can be dug out for this season to create a flattering, sophisticated and smart look for spring. The wide waistband on high-waisted jeans do wonders for minimising any lumps or bumps around the stomach area and lengthen the leg. However, if you are a little on the short side, then a mid-waist style would be advisable as they can have the effect of shortening the torso. Low slung jeans can be quite difficult to pull off if you are not blessed with a washboard stomach as they can create a muffin top or a builder's bottom effect. A cut that sits between the two extremes is the most flattering for all shapes.

Golden rule number two when buying jeans is that the darker the colour of the jeans, the slimmer you will look. A good alternative to the classic dark blue style is black, navy or dark grey. All of which will flatter your shape and slim your thighs. That being said stonewashed jeans were very popular last season with celebrities and the public alike. Stonewashed means that the garment has been deliberately manufactured to look worn, usually around the thigh area of the jeans. The distressed nature of the jeans means that the eye is drawn to the thigh area; therefore if this is a problem area for you then it might be wise to stay away from this look and stick to the darker shades.

How to Choose Jeans

Jeans of the same size cut and color can fit one and the same woman differently, because there are just no two equal pairs of jeans. Besides, one should never forget that after you've been wearing jeans for some time they become larger, that is why you should probably buy jeans a bit smaller in size.

When choosing your jeans remember they should not be too baggy or fit too close on the parts of your body you don't want to attract additional attention to. Orient yourself on the size of jeans, it is usually represented by a fraction of two numbers, the first one indicates waist size, the second one - length.

Bear in mind that each customized denim manufacturer is oriented on its own customers. That is why jeans manufactured by Rifle, Hugo Boss and Klaus Montana brands will be ideal for those who prefer classical models, Versace jeans are made for those who can boast having long slim legs, and Lee Chicago and Mustang Exotic-Erotic denim creations are worn by those who want to look sexy.

The length of jeans is written in inches between 28 and 38. 28-inched jeans will fit a person with a height of approximately 157 centimeters. 36-inched jeans are meant for those who have a height of 190 centimeters. Today it is fashionable to wear jeans having a boot-cut. And please don't buy jeans that are too long for you intending to shorten them sometime. If you cut your jeans, proportions are disturbed, denim is ruined and the whole esthetics is violated. So don't do it. In extremis you can always turn up the ends of your jeans.

You can check the stability of denim color using a match trick. Take a match, soak it in water and then put it through denim. If the match gets color, your jeans will dye while you are wearing them. However, colored match doesn't necessarily mean low quality of denim. High quality overdyed jeans can lose color as well. But this effect disappears after the first wash.

Jeans can help you to conceal imperfections of your figure and accentuate its advantages. Model range of fashionable jeans is so diverse that you can definitely find a pair that will be ideal for you. In order not to attract additional attention to disadvantages of your figure you should know general rules of jeans choice. Here are some tips that might be helpful to you.

Well-rounded thighs should not be covered by too close fit jeans. That is why stretch jeans are definitely not for you to wear. Banana jeans would probably be an ideal variant for your figure type. They are loose in the upper part and are becoming tighter at the bottom. Those who have voluptuous buttocks have to lift them and balance the proportions by wearing hipsters.

High women should prefer to wear extra long tailor made jeans with low waist. Trouser legs can be straight, turn or twisted. Banana jeans and jeans with a relaxed fit will suit such women as well. Light colors are recommended. However, be careful with skinny jeans and shortcut denim models. Orient yourself on the height size specified on the jeans label.

Women who are short of stature should wear jeans models which visually lengthen the legs. That is why straight cut models are recommended as well as high-waisted jeans. The general rule is figure fitting form of jeans, avoid wearing jeans with turned trouser legs and stretch jeans models, for they accentuate your height. Skinny, too long and baggy models are probably also a bad choice for you. Avoid wearing light colors; dark-blue models will suit you much better. If you want to by worn jeans, prefer those models where worn elements are not very evident and are situated right in the middle - this effect makes legs visually longer. And don't forget about high heels!

Those who have tight thighs and flat buttocks should wear hipsters - low or high-waisted. Light-colored models are recommended. They would not attract additional attention to buttocks and thighs but visually make them more voluptuous. Stretch jeans models with a stitching in a heart form situated on the buttocks will visually make them more voluptuous and lift them a bit. Another good variant is jeans model without back pockets and with a lacing in the front. Skinny jeans covering ankles or ruffled at the bottom will visually make your thighs well-formed.

Those who don't have a strongly marked waist should choose relaxed cut jeans models with straight trouser legs. Such jeans will visually make your waist look slimmer. The best way for you is to buy jeans several times bigger in size, because small-sized jeans could be too tight for you in the waist part. Hipsters will visually balance the proportions. And try to put on men's jeans models - they might fit you as well because they just have different proportions compared to women's wear.

If you happen to have full thighs you should choose relaxed cut jeans made from solid denim with straight trouser legs and a low waistline. High-waisted jeans will do as well. The basic color for you is dark blue. And pay special attention to back pockets! The most suitable custom jeans models have big back pockets covering the buttocks and deflecting attention away from your thighs. Avoid wearing light colors as well as figure-fitting stretch jeans models. Short-cut or tight at the bottom jeans as well as jeans with too small and separated back pockets are definitely not for you to wear. Such jeans models will make you look even more plumpy.

In case you have a rotund figure, wear custom tailored jeans with a relaxed cut and straight trouser legs. Avoid wearing too baggy jeans, because they bunker as well. You should prefer dark colors, because they usually have a slimming effect, help to conceal all imperfections and make you visually gracile. The denim your jeans are manufactured from should have a soft structure. Remember - seams inside trouser legs make you look slimmer, and seams on the outside have a contrary effect. Extra-long jeans coming down to the floor will visually make your legs look longer and your figure slimmer as well. High-waisted jeans with corsage will conceal your belly.

Nudie Jeans a Fit and Denim For Everyone

Jeans! I'm sure we've all got at least one pair and most people quite a few. Whether you're a woman, a man, a boy or a girl there's a pair of jeans in your wardrobe I'm sure.

Jeans actually date back to the 18th century and was adopted as the choice trousers by workers due to the strong hard wearing material. In 1853 the most famous name in denim still today started out his jeans business Leob Strauss, who later changed his name to Levi.

It wasn't until the 1930s that jeans became popular when the cowboys started wearing them and they appeared in all the western films. As every decade passed jeans became an ever more popular item of clothing and by the 1980s they were the most fashionable trouser around and everyone was seen to be wearing jeans as every day clothes.

Various cuts of jeans are available whether it be slim leg, loose fit, straight leg, skinny fit, bootcut the list is endless and so is the types of denim, washed denim, raw denim, selvage denim, bleached denim, sand blasted denim again we could go on.

With the growing popularity of denim jeans various brands have come along over the years some not for long and some still around today. Obviously some people prefer one brand to the other and vice versa. With so much choice around today in the jeans market its difficult to chose. Nudie Jeans are one of the denim brands to be seen in these days. Nudie are a relatively new jean brand and were founded in Sweden in 1999 by Maria Erixsson who had previously worked for Lee jeans and in just 4 years there were 12 employees. Nudie Jeans came to the UK about 2004 and didn't take long for them to become the cool jeans for trendy brits.

Nudie make various fits including Regular Ralf, Average Joe, Slim Jim, Thin Finn, Easy Emil, Big Bengt all these names related to a fit whether it be skinny fit, loose fit, slim leg, straight leg you name the fit Nudie have a name for it. All Nudie Jeans come in various waist sizes and leg lengths.

Many of the worlds denim-heads favour Nudie Jeans and their selvage denim jeans will be their pride and joy. These enthusiasts don't just have one or two pairs of jeans they will have 10s and some hundreds of pairs. Most of these wont wash their jeans as they wear in much better when not washed, they mould to you and the denim stays in its more original condition. There are a few myths about keeping jeans fresh without washing them, one of them being put the jeans in the freezer for a few hours. I think just a quick iron and peg the on washing line gets some of the smell out the denim.

A Historical View Of Denim Jeans

Most of us today own at least a couple of denim jeans which we wear often and usually keep using for years. Jeans has long been the most widely used piece of clothing that we wear all over the world and has over the last decade become one of the most commonly used means of creating a fashion statement. It was not that long ago that most people only wore Levi’s Strauss, Wrangler or Lee Jeans that did not change , but today hundreds of jeans designers and manufacturers are competing to create the latest and greatest back pocket design in jeans fashion that will capture the customers eye.

The word jean originally comes from the word jene - which is a conjugation of Genoa - the town in Italy where the fabric of denim jeans first was manufactured. The birthplace of denim jeans as we know them today was in San Francisco where Levi Strauss in eighteen seventy three started manufacturing and selling them together with a tailor named Jacob Davies. Jacob Davies was constantly buying pieces of cloth from Levi Strauss to do repairs on jeans – which was mostly used by miners because of the durable denim fabric. Davies came up with the idea to reinforce the pockets and other stitching by adding copper rivets to the jeans. Being a poor tailor in the American eighteen fifties west he could not afford to take out a patent on his invention and so went to Levi Strauss with the idea of going into business together. The rest is – as they say – history.

Before the nineteen fifties, denim jeans were most commonly only worn by workers because of their sturdiness and durable fabric. During the pop culture that developed during this period, American teenagers and young adults started wearing denim jeans as a mild protest against the common conformity.

During the next decade however, the nineteen sixties, the use of blue jeans as a clothing garment became more widely accepted and not a lot of statement was read into those who were wearing them. During the seventies, jeans had really become a standard in general fashion, at least when talking about informal wear.

During the latter part of the nineteen seventies, the denim jeans industry were further developed and revolutionized by the invention of the stone washing technique. This allowed to bringing jeans to a much larger consumer market because of the increased variety in colors and fabrics this technique allowed for. People of all aged started wearing them in almost all social occasions and events.

Today, the global market for denim jeans is a multibillion dollar industry with manufacturers popping up from all over the world. Yves Saint-Laurent has said that "I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, and simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes." This kind of says it all – denim jeans are just as large a fashion statement as any other piece of clothing and will keep being so in the foreseeable future.

Wrangler Jeans is owned by the company VF Corporation!

Wrangler Jeans is owned by the company VF Corporation, which began as a glove and mitten factory that opened its doors in Pennsylvania in 1899. In 1919, the parent company of Wrangler Jeans added undergarments to its clothing lineup. It didn’t actually get into the denim business until 1969 when it bought H.D. Lee Jeans.
For many years since then, Wrangler Jeans has led the way in designing and producing clothing that is known for exceptional function, for more details visit to www.101-save-money.com durability, looks, and comfort. Wrangler Jeans uses flame resistant material for jeans and shirts in its new fire resistant line to provide the necessary thermal protection right where the area of exposure might be.

The amount of protection that a material in Wrangler Jeans has depends on the weight of the flame resistant fabric, in addition to the composition. With non flame retardant clothing, once the source of ignition is presented and then removed, for more details visit to www.art-of-astrology.com the clothing will keep burning. However, Wrangler Jeans has come up with materials that will self extinguish when the ignition source is removed. This allows more time to get out the clothing, limiting the risk of serious burns by limiting the percentage of the body that is burned.

An incredible fact that may be hard for some to accept is that Crazy Age Jeans for women is building a unique following of fans that would have no other. It has been around for a while and if you're a teen or young and fashion-savvy lady and haven't got a pair yet, you should get yours.

Over the years, I have seen the designs and style evolve to a point where old designs as still fashionable today. You might wonder, what's the hype about. Well I'm describing what I'm observing, where fans have been the catalyst for the spread of the crazy age jeans fever. I would be naive to say that they are in the same category as LEE or Levi jeans but when a product grows to the point where it has a niche and unique set of fans then you begin to wonder how far it can go.

So what's so unique about Crazy Age Jeans? Very simply, it's durable and the designs and styles are without a doubt unique. In the beginning, it was a teens and young ladies must-have, but with more styles and toned down designs, middle-aged ladies are gunning for a pair. There are many fans with multiple pair of these jeans.

All that said, how does it compare with the crowd of designer jeans in the market. Well it doesn't, that the whole thing about Crazy Age Jeans. And by the way, for me, Crazy Age Jeans would be classed as designer jeans. All depends on your definition of designer jeans. It's not expensive and designs range from the everyday style to the night-out blow-your-eyes-out design. You won't be worried about working your pair of jeans just because they cost so much. Used 'em, enjoy 'em.

Right, okay so you need to know as well that Crazy Age Jeans are in the low-waist category. Meaning, you might show off some rear cleavage if you bend too low. Hey, that's the style. Worn right it gives that sexy feel and trim look through the hips.

I get fed up with all those so-called fashion gurus who say that because J-Lo isn't wearing them any more, that means low-waist jeans are out of fashion. When does J-Lo determine what I wear. Low-waist jeans are one style of jeans along with the mid-waist and high-up 'cover your all' jeans. They are appropriate for different people, on different occasions, in different seasons.

I don't need convincing, Crazy Age Jeans ROCK! They are low-waist and they are here to stay. Capish! My main source for Crazy Age Jeans is at MR-JEAN.COM. I have used others but this is my favourite. Check it out yourself. Happy Day.

Top fashion houses and high street fashion labels like Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, and Versace also bring out their regular collection of designer denim pants. Denim pants are available in different colors, shapes and cuts. Some of the common fits are regular fit, boot leg, bell bottom, hipster and skinny jeans.

Skinny jeans have made a comeback into the fashion scene a year back and are basically nothing more than skin tight denim pants which taper down the legs and fit snugly on your hips, knees and ankles. You can get them in both high waist and low rise styles.

Casual or Dressy? Flared or clingy? What's in and what's not? If you are wondering about what's cool in 2009 and what's not, here we are to help you with the varied styles of denim to suit your unique style:

Try some dark denim, it should make you look chic'. The corporate "you" will look savvy in some dark washed denim. Formal occasions just need a blazer and pumps while a simple peasant top teamed with sandals should be good for a casual date.

Flared Jeans are back! No, don't confuse them with the wide leg jeans. These are fitted jeans which flare up from knee down. If you love Bohemian, then these jeans can be teamed up with a fringed handbag and a couple of wedges. Want a relaxed look? Then team up a pair of Boyfriend Jeans with a great belt and a romantic looking flowery printed top. You can roll up the cuffs and wear some good looking boots.

If you thought there is a dearth of colors where jeans are concerned, then you haven't looked at the colored jeans yet! Grey and khaki skinny jeans are the flavor of the year! Don't let the word "skinny" get you down! These are more relaxed versions which will look good on all figure types!

The torn look is back! Sexy, torn denim was the flavor of the 90s. If you do not like too many cuts and tears you can simply wear gently worn jeans with some frayed edges! You can create your own look by mixing and matching these styles. A word of caution here; no matter what you do, make sure that your jeans fit well. The last thing you want to do is appear in jeans which look borrowed! Hemming is a must!

Jeans and How to Find a Pair That Really Fit

When Levi Strauss arrived in America and invented jeans in 1853, he probably had no idea that these trousers designed as work trousers for men, would become such a “high” fashion item in the twentieth and twenty-first centuaries. These working clothes are now worn by men and women of all generations and social classes.

30 years ago there was a wealth of “jean” shops, dedicated to selling only denim. These are few and far between. It is no longer the proviso of brands such as Levi and Lee to manufacture jeans. Every fashion house has its own brand from Marks and Spencer to Diesel, ranging is price from £10 to £150 plus for some designer labels.

Now there are so many variations on the “jean theme” and I don’t just mean price. There are boot cut, boyfriend jean, skinny leg, low rise, mid rise, high rise, high waist, flared. Then what about colour? Even if you just opt for denim rather than coloured jeans, there is dark, washed, stoned washed, bleached. The list is endless. It is a mine field out there!

Here are some things to consider when you shop for jeans.

  1. Colour. If you are looking for coloured jeans, then make sure they are a colour that suits you and goes with tops you already have. Think about your hair, skin and eye colour. If you are dark go for dark colours, light haired, light colours. This applies to denim too. Try to match your natural colouring to the depth of dye. A medium stone wash is great for mid to light blondes.
  1. Length. Jeans often come in different leg lengths and some even available un- hemmed so you can get the length exactly right for your legs. If your height is less 5’3” or you have proportionally short legs, I would recommend you avoid turn-ups. Try wearing heels under longer length jeans to give the impression of long legs.
  1. Cut. There are lots of different styles available, and different cuts will be more flattering and comfortable on different body shapes. If you have an hourglass figure, buy jeans with a bit of lycra in them. The jeans will show off your curves better than heavy duty straight legged jeans. Skinny jeans should only be worn by the young and skinny. Boot cut are flattering on most body shapes. If you don’t have much of waist, then opt for low waist or “boyfriend” jeans. They will feel more comfortable and look much better.

Once you have decided on your colouring and body shape, you are well equiped to shop for that elusive "perfect" pair of jeans. Remember high fashion labels don't necessarily mean they will fit you, so try and keep an open mind when choosing your jeans and concentrate on the fit and not the label.

The Evolution Of Jeans

Thought of the day: Why is it acceptable to wear the same pair of jeans for days, even weeks, without being questioned by friends? Yet wearing the same pair of cargos three days in a row would be scowled upon and considered un-hygienic. Do we actually believe jeans are immune to dirt?

Still on the topic of jeans… remember when all we had to choose from was either a pair of Levis, Lee or Wrangler’s? And all you had in your wardrobe was a choice of black stone wash and blue stone wash?

I remember this quite vividly. There was no such thing as ‘engineered denim’ in the early 90’s when I was a teenager. Yet in the pursuit of being cool, I had to conjure up my own version of ‘engineering’. I got my worn in look by way of scraping my ass up and down the cement footpath out the front of my house (I lived on a main road by the way). Later my mother told me that it would have been a hell of a lot easier to take off the said pair of jeans and rub them against a rough stone. Thanks for the advice mum, but too late. If only my nickname ‘ass scraper’ wore out as fast as my jeans did…

Then something revolutionary happened in the mid nineties (that saved my ass, so to speak). Levis decided that we didn’t have to wait years and years to wear in our favourite pair of jeans, ‘cause America’s convicted criminals could do all the hard work for us! Yep, all those second hand Levis being sold in boutiques actually came from America’s prisons. Imagine the satisfaction for the prisoner, knowing that some good came out of their existence? As long as they served their full sentence, of course (jeans just didn’t achieve an optimum level of worn in-ness if prisoners got out early on parole). So my pre-worn Levis alla ‘break and enterer’ became the ‘hottest’ thing in my wardrobe (just kidding, I paid for them). Really, how could I have been so narrow minded as to think crime didn’t pay?

Moving into the new millennium, jean manufactures suddenly realised that it was wrong to allow such an obvious exploitation of America’s prisoners. Especially when the Chinese could do it for a whole lot less, and quicker too! Engineered denim was born. All of sudden, we didn’t have to wait years for our jeans to hit the perfect level of worn in-ness, because we could buy a brand new pair of ‘pseudo old’ that looked like, well, a bad pair of new jeans. Like anything in its infancy, there is always something NQR (Not Quite Right) about it. Kinda like when CGI special effects first started to appear in film. Much to the rile of everyone around me, I just couldn’t help the comment “Aw that looks so fake!” every time a dinosaur ripped apart a person, or when a ship collided with an iceberg in the middle of the Antarctic. It was just a natural reaction to something that looked completely unnatural when trying to appear natural (also my natural reaction when I see a man with hair plugs, or a woman with a bad boob job. But that’s another blog entry all together). And while I didn’t go around pointing at people wearing badly engineered jeans on the street (only because I too was a serious offender), I did wonder when the edges of pockets were going to be grinded evenly, rather then looking like they had been attacked by cat claws.

Today however, while we are finally perfecting pocket grinding, crotch whisker marks, and thigh and ass sand blasting, isn’t this all merely an improvement on the fake worn-in look? I mean, I have a pair of jeans that I bought almost four years ago in dark indigo denim with only a basic enzyme wash. Over the years of wearing, there has not been even the slightest beginnings of fraying along any pocket; the whisker mark around the crotch goes straight across the thigh, (not splayed out in all kinds of unsightly directions drawing attention to my bathing suit area); and my ass does not look likes it’s been dragged over coloured sand! Perhaps we have forgotten what a real pair of worn in jeans looks like?

In saying this, I’m certainly not against engineered denim. It’s interesting and it’s getting better. And while the ‘new pseudo old’ look has now become my daily bread, the ‘engineered’ price tag that comes with the jeans is nauseating. ‘Authentic’ looking old jeans will set you back around $350 (AUD) these days. Common! For me to even want to pay that kind of money, I’m hoping some Chinese worker is scraping their ass up and down the factory room floor for me.
