Finding The Ultimate Pair Of Men's Jeans

Jeans are the most versatile item in your wardrobe. They can be dressed up or dressed down, and are an essential part of your clothing collection. We all wear them and we are all looking for that perfect denim fit. With so many different fits and finishes available, the task can seem daunting, but finding that perfect pair is easier than you think when you follow a few simple rules.

You need to think about where and when you will be wearing your new jeans. Are they for lounging around in at home, or will you be wearing them out to bars, clubs and nights out? The places you intend to wear your new jeans will affect the kind of jeans you need to buy.

If your workplace allows you to wear denim to work, then you might want to check out more conservative styles and fits, darker shades, without any flashy embellishments. If you are looking for jeans for a night out, then your options are more varied and you can look for bling finishes and detailing.

Jeans come in all colours and finishes now, from classic denim to distressed finishes, faded blacks to day-glo neons. Obviously the shade you go for depends on where you are going to wear them, but as a general rule classic denim blue can be worn anywhere, stonewash is great for a casual look, and the trendiest colour right now is faded black, verging on grey.

The denim trend right now is for simple straight cut jeans. These can be worn with anything and flatter all shape, provided they are not too high-waisted. Another popular cut right now is the carrot cut, where the jeans are slightly wider across the thighs and taper in a little at the bottom.

Baggy jeans may still be popular with skater kids, but if you are looking for a looser fit go for a compromise - the relaxed fit jean. Some stores call them relaxed fit, some stores call them loose fit. Either way these are basic straight leg jeans that sit a little lower on the hips and have are slightly baggier than regular straight leg jeans.

You might want to opt for a boot cut jean to wear with any ankle boots or cowboy boots that you have in your wardrobe. These jeans are slightly wider at the bottom - not a full-on flare cut, just slightly wider, and are great for wearing over boots as they will cover your footwear without being too tight around the ankle and bunching at the bottom.

When shopping for jeans, try a mix of styles to see what suits you best. Try on your jeans with the shoes or trainers and belt that you wear most often. Look for jeans that are not too tight across the crotch, legs and waist. Check that they look good from behind - the higher the back pockets are placed, the better.

Our guide to finding the perfect pair of jeans was written by Josef Kazan, an experienced men's stylist. They recommend checking the New Look website for great value men's jeans that incorporate the latest denim trends for 2010.

Jeans: A Fashion Staple For Over 50 Years

Question: what one item of clothing can be worn on a Saturday watching footie with the boys, to a first date with a pretty girl and to a Sunday lunch with the new girlfriend’s parents, pending the first date of course? The answer: men's jeans.

Jeans have been a fashion staple for over 50 years now. Almost everyone on the planet, at least in the developed world, owns a pair of jeans. They can be dressed up with a shirt and court shoes when the occasion requires, but look just as good with a pair of old trainers and a scruffy looking hoodie. There aren’t many other items of clothing that can make this claim to fame.

Jeans started as worker wear; farmers and low-skilled labourers first wore them back in the 1930s. They were cheap and hard wearing and so cottoned on quickly. But then, the US Navy made them their own in the 1940s and 50s, but it wasn’t until the eternally cool James Dean donned a pair in Rebel Without A Cause that they wandered into mainstream fashion.

Once they nonchalantly moved into the fashion realm, all kinds of rebellious groups took them as their own. First were the high school kids of America, pairing their football jackets with straight-leg turn-ups.

Then came the hippies of the 1960s who opted for high-waisted flares, known as bell-bottom men’s jeans. This symbolised freedom and equality, with was the basis for the flower-power movement.

Then came disco and looser fitting flares. The point of this was to allow movement to dance to groove.

Next came the punks of the 1980s who took tight fitting, slim fit men’s jeans to a whole new level. They paired their drainpipe jeans with DM boots, leather jackets and spiky hair.

Then in the 1990s hip-hop took over denim. High waisted, loose fitting men’s jeans were paired with over-sized t-shirts and baseball caps as well as high-top trainers, largely thanks to the NBA player Michael Jordan.

So by the time we got to the 2000s, what did we do? Reinvent all the old styles and add modern twists. We now have bootcut, straight, worker with loads of pockets and zips with a baggy feel, twisted and narrow at the ankles and slim fit, the most popular style of men’s jeans at the moment.

All this choice means men can find a shape to suit their own personal style. They can also find men’s jeans that are flattering. In fact, there is now so much choice between men’s jeans that it is sometimes hard to decide what style to go with nex

Where to Find Jeans, and How Brands Stack Up

Shopping online

Whenever you're shopping for jeans online, the best place to start is on the jeans company's website. In most cases, buying direct from the company is a little more expensive than buying through other online stores, but making note of the company's price gives you a good starting point for price comparison.

After that, start looking around at the sites of major department stores. For example, you can go to the sites of Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and so on. You might be surprised by how many brands of fashion jeans some of these online stores carry. In fact, the websites usually have much broader selections than the actual stores.

Finally, you can also shop through the major marketplace websites. For example, on a site like Amazon you can find new jeans from most companies, but you can sometimes also get great deals from private sellers. And one of the best options is eBay, where you can usually find some good deals, but the choices are highly variable, which means that you may not be able to find the specific pair that you're looking for.

Fashion Jeans Brands

Every fashion jeans company has slightly different ways of putting their jeans together, which presents challenges when you're buying jeans made by a company you have no experience with. Here are some things to keep in mind for some of the most popular fashion jeans brands.

Citizens of Humanity Jeans: Citizens of Humanity jeans tend to be very true to one's natural size, especially the stretch varieties. For the non-stretch jeans, you may want to go up one size. Here are the main types of Citizens of Humanity jeans:

· Faye: Low-rise jeans with trouser legs and narrowing below the waist.

· Ingrid: Straight-legged jeans with flared cuffs.

· Kelly: Straight-legged low-rise jeans with bootcut cuffs.

Hudson Jeans: Hudson jeans typically run a little small, but it's not too significant, so you should be able to purchase them in your natural size. The Bootcut Hudsons are perfect for girls with more boyish figures, and the Wide Leg Hudsons accommodate a very large variety of body types.

J Brand Jeans: J brand jeans are typically very true to size, although they're known for being very snug, and they tend to stretch a little over time.

Joe's Jeans: Joe's jeans are known for enhancing the figures of curvier women. The Honey jeans are roomy around the thighs and rear; the Provocateur is for petite women; the Twiggy is for taller girls; and the Cigarette is straight and narrow.

Seven for All Mankind: One of the biggest advantages of Seven for All Mankind jeans is that most types are aged in the factory, which means they're probably not going to shrink at all. Here are some specific styles you might see:

· Boy cut: Boy cut jeans sit higher on the waist, are slightly loose around the thighs, and have boot-cut cuffs.

· Dojo: Dojo Seven jeans have a low waist and higher back. They fit straight on the hips and have flared cuffs.

· Flynt: Flynt Seven jeans are low on the waist, have contoured waist band, and have boot-cut cuffs.

True Religion Jeans: True religion jeans have a standard fit, but they're not for shrinking by about a half inc
